One of the most popular versions of 5 card draw poker is no limit five card draw. No limit simply refers to the betting limits that are placed upon the game. A betting limit is the amount that a raise or opening bet can be. No limit five card draw does not have a limit on the amount of betting, although the blinds may be set at a specific amount. Players may bet up to the number of chips that they have on the table. You should know how to play 5 card draw very well before you move on to strategy articles like this.

    HORSE Poker Guide

      May 4th, 2009

The problem with playing HORSE mix poker is sometimes that you are also playing other games and you don’t keep a check on the game you are playing. This mainly is the case if the Razz moves to 7 Card Stud and when this moves to 7 Card Stud hi/lo. There will be a notification in the chat box and the game you play is shown on the top of your screen. So you need to pay attention to this very closely. Other common mistakes is to forget what a low hand actually consist of. A common problem is not understanding that the HIGHEST card in the low hand is deciding what the winner is of the low hand.

Furthermore, it is vital to think of the hand values in the Texas HoldEm version as it is limit play, so overplaying aces or other normally good hands is very common. As you can bet no more then the limit players tend to stay in the hand longer then when you can raise a significant amount. Mistakes are often made when players tend to play their favourite games too aggressive. A player might for instance only be an ace in Omaha and therefore play every single Omaha hand as he wants to be able to play his favourite game. This can be a costly venture and cost a lot of chips.

    H.O.R.S.E Poker Tips

      May 3rd, 2009

In HORSE poker it is important to understand the value of hands. Suited connectors are worth a lot more in limit HoldEm then they are in no limit Holdem as the bets can never be of high value and therefore you might “get in cheap” to see if you make the straight or the flush.  H.O.R.S.E poker strategy is very complex because it involves strategy for 5 different games. The best place to play horse and other mixed games is Pokerstars. When you signup and use our  Pokerstars referral code you will get a seat at our freerolls.
With Omaha it is vital to remember that the “nuts” change on virtually every card that comes out and betting should be done when unbeatable hands are made. This will not happen that often, so playing a tight game and play conservative is a good thing to do. With the Stud games it is important to remind yourself of the most important adagio in poker: There is always a high hand. Not always a low hand.
This because vital in the hi/lo games. Chasing 50% of the pot is never a good idea as this might become 25% which would mean a loss on the hand instead of a win.
Always play the hi/lo games to win at least 75% of the pot by having the best high hand and a good low hand. This stops you from bleeding chips.

    7 Card Stud HL Tips

      April 30th, 2009

There is always a high hand. Not always a low hand. This is probably the single most important thing in an 7 card stud  hi/lo game. I personally have this hung like a banner in front of me on the wall.
Don’t go chasing 50% of the pot. The idea of the game is to go in with hands that can win BOTH pots or at least win one and split the other.
Take pairs for what they are. A pair in itself will hardly win a pot and they should be played for what they are worth. Even if an opponent is obviously going for a low hand, then still he might have pairs under and therefore might go for both. This can be true for razz also.
If you are left with another player in the pot have a look at his hand and decided then and there to either play or fold for a pot if your hand cant win both. Is it worth the risk. i.e.. is the pot big enough already to stay in it and risk some chips to win half of what was there?
Have a good look at the folded cards by your opponents. These can play a big part in your decision to play a hand further.

    H.O.R.S.E Poker Tournament Tips

      April 30th, 2009

In horse poker tournaments you will come up against players that might know one or two games better then others. That is no problem at all as it is almost impossible to specialize in all 5 varieties. If you find out which games your competitors at the table like to play then you can take advantage of this when it comes round to these games again.  Knowing a solid horse poker strategy is crucial to dominating tournaments. Some people love Omaha and would always call preflop, just because the like to play Omaha and don’t want to “miss out” on the round of Omaha. The same goes of course for the other games as well. If you manage to find the “leaks” in your opponents game then you can use this to your advantage by playing good hands very, very strong indeed. Chip management becomes vital when you reach the latter stages of a tournament. Not only will the blinds or antes consume a lot of your stack, but the deeper you go into a tournament the better your opponents will be as the weaker players have lost out. This could very well mean that you will need to become more passive and pick your spots to attack and take down a pot. When you reach the latter stages people WILL pay attention to your habits and do’s and don’ts. That means they will likely call you if you are involved in every pot, but if you show a tight table imagine you will be respected and can take down the pot with an occasional bluff or semi bluff.  Razz poker is typically the game in which there is the most potential for profits in horse poker. Players are even pretty bad at the other two stud poker games.
